Gap Analysis of Economic Incentives for Antimicrobials in APEC Economies

  14 March 2024

Addressing barriers to market entry and new drug development

This gap analysis identifies challenges in addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and incentivizing the development of novel antimicrobials. A survey distributed among APEC economies revealed insufficient targeted reimbursement processes and pull-incentives. To address these issues, strengthening financing mechanisms for sustainable antimicrobial R&D, supporting public-private partnerships, evaluating pull incentive pilot approaches, and exploring international collaborative mechanisms is crucial. Integrating AMR into international development cooperation initiatives can enhance global access to essential health products.
